I was born and reared in New Orleans, a city of unending charm, history and artistic nuances. Those surroundings
quite naturally influenced my artistic aspirations. Without family encouragement during my early years, I never
did apply to the schools that beckoned me to the world of art through their magazine ads. I did, however draw the faces from those ads so often that I could probably have drawn them while sleeping.
Many years later, I enrolled in private art classes in Newport Beach, CA. Art History, Color and Design and Life Drawing Classes were the focus of my studies. Additional classes soon followed at The Laguna Beach School of Art
and Orange Coast Community College. Various workshops with well known artists and instructional books and videos continue to add to my painting education. I firmly believe that art is an ongoing process of growth, and I learn something new with each new endeavor.
My work can be described as
figurative and impressionistic arriving at a designed realism, with a
sometimes-abstract finale. Trying different approaches keeps me growing as an artist. On-going experimentation with a variety of media encourages me to slip in and out of different artistic styles as you will readily see when you visit my paintings.
I can always see the silver
lining in every dark cloud, and look at the bright side of life to find that everything
truly does happen for the best. Some of my early acrylic and oil paintings won awards in local shows in California, but even that public recognition was no strong match when Corporate America called. Business somehow then became the focus of my efforts, and my painting and art were placed on a back burner for a number of years.
There is one thing for
sure. Whether I am engaged in the activities of life in general or in the activities of a painting, my thoughts are
always in a painting. When I am painting is when I am happiest.
I find inspiration everywhere..... in every cloud, shape, shadow and color.....and
that’s exciting!
These are the things I want to share with you through my paintings. I invite you to take your time browsing.
. . and most of all,
enjoy!
